Hi Jacob, I’m a firm believer that everyone in the organisation should be approaching everything with the mind of a product person, and that it isn’t a product manager’s role to be the sole owner of a product.

As such, I don’t think there’s a problem with a role such as a designer utilizing product skills to get the job done, just as I don’t think there’s a problem with a sales person thinking about product, or a customer success person doing the same.

Product Managers help facilitate this mindset, they support the process that allows it, and ultimately they provide direction. Some PMs are involved in the day-to-day delivery, whilst others are off doing user research and bringing back hypotheses to test. A PM in one organisation is not the same as a PM in the next, but in all organisations they can support product thinking.

Thanks for your comments.
